Emirates Stadium side set to sign talented Argentine international.
Arsenal look set to sign midfielder Ricky Alvarez for a fraction of what they offered last summer.
Alvarez, 24, was the subject of a tug-of-war-esque battle between Inter Milan and Arsenal last summer. The Argentinean ultimately decided in favour of a move to the San Siro and Arsenal moved on to other targets.
However, Alvarez’s move to Inter has been unsuccessful. He has only made 9 starting appearances, he has been a used sub just six times and only has a goal to his name. Alvarez is known to be keen to leave the San Siro this summer, and Inter will be happy to recoup some of the £10million they spent to bring in Alvarez.
Wenger is understood to be willing to gamble that Alvarez could recapture the form that made him one of the Gunners’ top transfer targets just 12 months ago given that he could be available for as little as £6million.
A promising summer appears to be brewing at Arsenal with the signings of Jan Vertonghen and Podolski expected to be confirmed when the transfer window opens.

Ricardo ‘Ricky’ Alvarez arrived at the San Siro when the Serie A club were in the middle something of a crisis. His first season at the club has coincided with what looks likely to end as the worst club in Inter Milan’s recent history and almost certainly ending without qualifying for the Champions League.
The powerfully built midfielder has barely had a look-in and it appears likely the 6ft 2in attacking midfielder will leave in the summer and the source above believes that Arsenal may well look to re-ignite their interest in the Argentine international and Arsene Wenger may well be looking to add more strength in depth to his midfield.
With the likes of Jack Wilshere, Mikel Arteta and Aaron Ramsey have all suffered injuries in the recent past one could see why the Gunners boss would explore the option of bringing in the Inter Milan man.
The fact that Alvarez provides a real goal threat from the midfield may also make him a tempting proposition and some sources have stated that the Italian giants may accept as little as £7.5m for his services as the Nerazzurri look to freshen up their squad this summer and at that price the signing could prove to be something of a bargain.
