The Arsenal captain, who was this morning named Footballer of the Year by the PFA and the FWA, is out of contract with the north London side at the end of next season.
Suggestions are arising that the 28-year-old could bring his Emirates tenure to an end this summer, with the likes of Manchester City and Juventus keen on securing the player’s signature.
The striker’s future went into overdrive last week after he was spotted at the same hotel Barcelona were staying at prior to their Champions League clash with Chelsea, fueling rumours of a summer move to the Nou Camp.
However, rumours of a move to the Spanish giants have been quashed by club spokesman Toni Freixa.
“For Barça, any good player is of interest – and van Persie is a great player. But [we have] no intention of signing him for now,” said Freixa.
“He came to our hotel in London because he is Dutch and so is Ibrahim Afellay. They had a coffee together. He didn’t come to see us and there was no conversation.”
The Arsenal striker has been in blistering form this year, scoring 34 goals in 45 appearances for Wenger’s side.
