Former Bolton defender Tal Ben Haim looks set to leave Portsmouth this summer following the club’s relegation. The Fratton Park side were unable to beat the drop following financial problems…
Tal Ben Haim’s agent says there is no chance the defender will drop to League One with relegated Portsmouth. The Israel international has 12 months remaining on his current contract, one understood to be worth close to £2m in wages.
It is understood that the former West Ham defender has another 12 months remaining on his £2m contract at Portsmouth, who have recently been relegated to League 1 following the club’s financial problems of late.
The Israel international has no intentions of playing his football in League 1 next season, with his agent claiming there are a number of other clubs interested in the player.
The 30-year-old’s departure would be a massive boost as Pompey look to slash their soaring wage bill, with the star reported to earn £36,000 per-week.
“Tal will not play in League One next season,” said his agent. “There is interest in him from other clubs, and when there is something to announce I will announce it.”
“But he definitely will not be playing in League One for Portsmouth,” his agent continued.
Ben Haim signed his reported £36,000-a-week four-year deal in August 2009, and has since epitomised Pompey’s mismanagement in recent years. His snub for Saturday’s lap of appreciation has been widely criticised by Pompey fans, with one season-ticket holder saying:
“The man is completely out of order. The sooner we get shot of him the better, we don’t need people like that at this club.”
Ben Haim has gone on to make 57 appearances for the Blues.
