The latest rumours surfacing this afternoon are linking Chelsea forward Salomon Kalou with Italian giants AC Milan. The Stamford Bridge outfit are expected to mount a squad overhaul this summer, with the Ivorian being one of the names likely to leave…
The Ivory Coast international has endured a mixed spell at Stamford Bridge since his 2006 move from Dutch side Feynoord, often being used as an impact substitute.
However, since the London club parted ways with former coach Andreas Villas-Boas, the forward had enjoyed a change of fortune.
Now an integral part of the Chelsea set up under interim coach Roberto di Matteo, Kalou finds himself as one of the clubs more important players.
And, according to reports in Italy, Serie A giants AC Milan are well aware of his recent renaissance and want to sign him at the end of the season.
Milan are currently second in the Serie A table, three points behind league leaders Juventus who top Serie A for the first time since being relegated in the 2006 Italian football scandal.
The Italian giants have also endured a somewhat disappointing European campaign this term, following a quarter-final defeat to last year’s champions Barcelona. Many in Italy believe that if AC are to mount a realistic bit on the Serie A and Champions League, they will have to strengthen their strike force.
Despite having star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the likes of Robinho and Pato have both failed to deliver on too many occasions this season, meaning AC will be looking for cheap alternatives to line up alongside Ibrahimovic next season.
Kalou’s contract is up in June and he is expected to leave Stamford Bridge with a summer squad shake-up seemingly on the cards. And the striker could prove to be a good signing for AC, with a price tag of as little as £9.5m thought to be enough to lure in the Chelsea man.
