Chelsea are reportedly ready to offer Real Madrid £35million to secure the services of Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain.
The Stamford Bridge club will be looking for a replacement for the aging Dider Drogba, who is rumored to be lining up a move to join former teammate Nicolas Anelka and Chinese side Shanghai Shenua next season.
Despite enduring a relatively poor league campaign, Chelsea find themselves in touching distance of lifting the FA Cup and the Champions League in May. And Club chairman Roman Abramovic will know that if his side are to lift the two trophies, they will stand a better chance of drafting in bigger names during this summer’s transfer window.
If Madrid decide to do business with Morinho’s former club, it would open up funds for the Spanish side to bid for Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero, who has been linked with them for the majority of the season.
“Higuain is top of the shopping list,” revealed a Chelsea source, as reported in The Sun.
“He has a phenomenal goalscoring record for Real and for Argentina but he helps make lots of goals too.
“He would be perfect for us, the sort of player who would thrive in the Premier League.”
The Argentina international has an impressive goalscoring record for Madrid, with 25 goals in 51 games this season, and an overall record of 102 goals in 217 appearances.
