Carrow Road boss refuses to discuss Villa Park link.
Norwich manager Paul Lambert has labelled the rumours linking him with the Aston Villa manager role as ‘extremely unfair.’
Lambert has had a remarkable time since taking over at the helm of Norwich City, securing back-to-back promotions for Delia Smith’s club since taking over from Bryan Gunn at the start of the 09/10 season.
The Norwich boss secured promotion to League 1 in his first season, followed by automatic promotion to the Premier League after taking the Championship by storm last season.
It’s Lambert’s fellow Scot, Alex McLeish, who is currently feeling the wrath of managing a Premier League side, with his Aston Villa team currently sitting just two places above the relegation zone with a realistic chance of failing to beat the drop this season.
And the Norwich City manager believes it is ‘extremely unfair’ to have been linked with replacing Aston Villa boss Alex McLeish before the season is up.
McLeish finds himself under serious pressure after struggling to win over the supporters following his switch from local rivals Birmingham City last summer.
The Scot also has the dreaded task of trying to keep Villa in the Premier League after a run of one win in 13 games has left the club just three points outside the relegation zone.
However, Lambert has brushed off the rumours and believes it is unfair to speculate on him replacing his fellow Scot at Villa.
The Norwich manager has said,”Speculation about players is something you can never do anything about. It happens with managers as well and you can never stop that,” according to ESPN.
“If my players get linked with other teams, there is not a thing I can do about that. It is the same situation about myself.
“However, it is extremely unfair with me being linked with Aston Villa when they have got a really good manager up there who is doing everything he can to stay in the league.
“It is an unfair comment for me to say anything on that.”
