German international officially completes Emirates Stadium move.
Lukasz Podolski and FC Cologne have confirmed that he will be an Arsenal player next season. Using his Facebook page, in a statement released jointly on the Cologne website, the German international said:
“Hi folks, from next season I will play Arsenal FC. This change gives me the opportunity to play at international level in a top European club. This is a great opportunity in my sporting career.
“The decision for this step is not easy for me because the FC Köln, the city and the fans are very special for me. I’ll always carry FC in my heart. We must now concentrate all the forces together and focus exclusively on the league. Regards, Poldi.”

This move has been on the cards for some time and an announcement detailing the move was apparently held on the grounds that such a statement could impinge on Koln’s attempts to avoid the drop. Clearly this failed as Podolski’s side now face the very real prospect of going down as they go into the last game of the season knowing that the best they can hope for is securing a relegation play-off berth.
Podolski has a lot of experience for a player of 26 having amassed almost 100 German national team caps. The former Bayern Munich man has been in fine form this term notching up 18 goals for a side that has been at the wrong end of the table for the entire season.
Gunners fans will hope that this move will help persuade Robin Van Persie to put pen to paper on a new deal.
