Emirates Stadium side target in form striker.
Arsenal monitoring Dutch ace who wants to play for a big club
Arsenal have joined the long list of clubs that are interested in the services of SC Heerenveen striker Bas Dost, who has just turned down a move to Aston Villa because he will only move to a “big club”
Dost has burst on to the scene in the last couple of seasons with his scoring exploits, he has knocked in an impressive 44 goals from just 65 outings for SC Heerenveen since joining them in 2010 and it has been that sort of prolificacy that has brought him to the attention of some of Europe’s bigger clubs.
There is no denying that Bas Dost has hit a rich vein of form over the past two seasons but is he the type of player who would add value to Arsenal’s squad? The 6ft 4in forward has netted 31 Eredivisie goals this term but is still yet to win a full national team cap for Holland and would arguably not be an improvement on the attacking support that Robin Van Persie currently has at the club.
Scoring goals in Holland does not necessarily translate to doing so in ‘bigger’ leagues, just ask Middlesbrough fans after they saw their club spend £12m on Afonso Alves. Bas Dost is clearly a talented player but a move to the North London club would be a surprise given his success relates effectively to one breakthrough season.
Whatever shortcomings the likes of Marouane Chamakh, Gervinho and loaned out pair Nicklas Bendtner and Carlos Vela have they are probably all better on their day than the Heerenveen striker.
