Emirates Stadium side keen on St James’ Park pair. Arsene Wenger sets sights on in-form duo.
Arsenal are reportedly considering making advances for Newcastle United pair Demba Ba and Yohan Cabaye as Gunners boss Arsene Wenger looks to conduct a major squad re-shuffle this summer. The Emirates Stadium boss is said to be a big admirer of the Magpies pair and recent admissions from St James Park’ managing director Derek Llambias in relation to possible player sales will not have gone unnoticed by prospective suitors.
Llambias stated in a recent interview that “The reality is when we get the price in we have to sell our best players” and this may have led many interested parties to plot possible summer bids for members of Alan Pardew’s much improved side.
Demba Ba is said to be available for a relatively modest fee due to having a fairly moderate release clause, something that was revealed by Harry Redknapp some months ago. The Senegal international has had a fine season but has perhaps had his efforts overshadowed of late due to the fantastic form shown by team-mate Papiss Cisse. Pardew would however be loathed to lose the former West Ham man as he has formed a tremendous partnership with his national team-mate.
Wenger is looking to boost his firepower and though Lukas Podolski is on his way from Koln the Arsenal boss is looking to bring in further forward options as he looks to trim his current attacking options. The likes of Marouane Chamakh, Park Chu-Young, Nicklas Bendtner and Carlos Vela have all been strongly linked with departures this summer.
Cabaye is another player in a rich vein of form and the 26 year old has become a firm favourite with the Toon Army faithful since his move from Lille in the summer. However genuine interest from Arsenal will surely tempt the French international, especially if Newcastle United just fall short of booking a spot in the Champions League for next term.
Arsene Wenger has been mightily impressed by the displays the box to box midfielder has put in and the Arsenal manager is said to be ready to test the water with an offer for the Newcastle United man. He is keen to beef up his central midfield options having seen an injury crisis greatly hamper progress this term with Jack Wilshere and Mikel Arteta among those who have suffered major injuries.
In order to make room for probable summer arrivals a number of Wenger’s under-performing squad players will be made available for potential sales. The likes of Abou Diaby, Andrei Arshavin, Denilson, Sebastien Squillaci and the aforementioned striking quartet could all face the axe in what could well turn out to be an extensive summer cull.
