Toon line up move for De Jong as duo close in on £7m swoop for Ba
Newcastle are busy lining up replacements for Demba Ba and have FC Twente striker Luuk de Jong at the top of their shopping list.
Ba, who signed on a free transfer from West Ham last summer, has a £7m release clause in his contract and could quit St James’ Park in the summer with Arsenal interested in the striker.

Arsenal’s apparent interest in Demba Ba, as detailed by this source, could well prove to be a ‘goer’ if Alan Pardew is already lining up potential replacements for the Senegal international goal machine and if indeed he can be captured for as little as £7m then clearly Arsene Wenger, and many others, would be keen to make such an offer for the 26 year old.
Though the Gunners have just brought in Lukas Podolski to beef up their attacking options the futures of under-performing forwards Marouane Chamakh, Gervinho and loaned out pair Carlos Vela and Nicklas Bendtner could be in the balance as Wenger looks for a vast improvement on last term.
Arsenal rely far too heavily on Robin Van Persie for an end product to their attacking advances so a move to bring in Demba Ba would be a sensible one to consider.
Ba has been slightly overshadowed by the arrival of national team-mate Papiss Cisse but still notched up 16 goals in his first term at Newcastle United and Pardew’s interest in Dutchman Luuk De Jong could be seen as a sign that he is resigned to losing the former West Ham man, at least that is what the Daily Mail surmise from the Magpies interest in the FC Twente forward.
At £7m one can imagine that many other sides will be sniffing around the powerfully built French born forward but the promise of Champions League football, a tournament Demba Ba is yet to feature in, could see the North London side leading the race for his services.
