ARSENAL, Tottenham and a host of other top clubs have been put on red alert after it emerged Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel is considering his Anfield future.
And one of the first tasks awaiting the Merseyside club’s new manager will be to tackle the Skrtel issue.
The Slovakia star wants to be involved in the Champions League but the Anfield club, which last week sacked manager Kenny Dalglish, were nowhere near qualifying last season.
But with two years remaining on his contract, Skrtel, 27, can’t just quit the Kop.

So given that Tottenham haven’t after all secured the Champions League football that this source claims Martin Skrtel wants one can only assume that Arsenal are now the front-runners in the race for the 27 year old. But do they need the Liverpool centre back.
Given that Laurent Koscielny and Thomas Vermaelen are now a formidable pairing and Arsene Wenger’s first choice centre back partnership and with Per Mertesacker as a very able back-up option. Where would the Slovakian international fit into the mix?
As this source points out, Skrtel may find it hard to flee the Merseyside club, not least as he is one of the only consistent performers in the Anfield squad. Though Liverpool finished eighth last season only Man City and Man United conceded fewer goals than the Merseyside club and that is down in the main to the determined performances from the former Zenit man.
With Jamie Carragher not getting any younger and Daniel Agger constantly being out with injuries, Skrtel is the most effective defensive option the clubs possesses and selling the player must surely not be an option.
