Great expectations! Fergie puts his faith in youth with £4m move for Crewe’s Powell
Sir Alex Ferguson has sealed a £4million deal for England Under-18 international Nick Powell as he turns to young talent to secure Manchester United’s future.
The manager struck a deal with League Two Crewe for the forward, who has scored 15 goals this season and will feature in next week’s League Two play-off at Wembley.

This source states that this move has been completed though as yet no evidence of such a deal has been reported on the club’s official site. If Sir Alex Ferguson has snapped up the promising youngster then he would have beaten a fair few other interested parties as the teenager has become one of the most sought after players in England in recent months.
The 18 year old Crewe forward has been in fine form this term, notching up 15 goals to help his side to the League Two play-off final, which takes place next Sunday against Cheltenham, seemingly the last appearance the England Under 18 international will make for the club.
Having lost youngster Ravel Morrison to West Ham last season and then seeing Paul Pogba continually being linked with a move to Juventus, ESPN reporting a deal could be agreed soon, Sir Alex Ferguson may well be looking to bring in a new injection of youth to his Old Trafford squad.
Having brought in the likes of Phil Jones and Chris Smalling in recent seasons the Scot has shown his willingness to pick up talented young English talent that he then seeks to integrate with young talent coming through the club’s academy system.
