Chelsea have also made efforts to recruit Rafael da Silva as a new right-back for next season, placing an inquiry with Manchester United last week. Sir Alex Ferguson, however, is unwilling to part with the 21-year-old Brazilian who has made close to 100 first-team appearances in his four seasons at Old Trafford.

No doubt efforts to bring in the Brazilian youngster would’ve been laughed off by Sir Alex Ferguson though the 21 year old’s Man Untied future may well be in doubt. The wide-man has been strongly linked with an Old Trafford exit with speculation being rife that a move to Benfica may be on the cards, as detailed by many sources including most prominently by Sky Sports.
Rafael has struggled to secure a regular spot in the Man United starting eleven, a problem he shares with his twin Fabio, but clearly both are still young and could yet fulfill their obvious potential. Ferguson is not likely to consider offers for any of his squad from rival Premier League sides so Chelsea may well be better off looking elsewhere.
Perhaps the Blues are looking to beef up their right sided options despite the fact that Jose Bosingwa is experiencing something of a return to form of late and the West London side can also use Branislav Ivanovic in the position if needed.
Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich will need to install a new permanent boss before he really gets to grips with potential additions to go with the signing of Marko Marin, who agreed a moved to Stamford Bridge from Werder Bremen late last month.
