Former favourite Cole tops Allardyce wish list as Hammers look for staying power
West Ham will explore the possibility of bringing Joe Cole back to Upton Park after securing their top-flight return.
And Cole is not the only former Hammer who could be on his way back to east London as the club target Nigel Reo-Coker and Kieran Richardson.
Manager Sam Allardyce is already turning his attention to strengthening his squad as he looks to give West Ham a fighting chance of staying up next season. And former Upton Park favourite Cole is understood to be on a list of names Allardyce and his backroom team have identified as potential targets.

This may well be a sensible move from ‘Big’ Sam Allarydce. Having secured an instant return to the top tier the Upton Park boss is mindful his squad may not be good enough to keep themselves from another relegation battle so a move to improve the Hammers playing staff is a wise one and moves to bring former players back could well prove successful with the trio mentioned by this source.
Joe Cole may be amenable to an Upton Park return but is no doubt hoping that Lille look to make his temporary move a permanent one, not least because they have Champions League football to look forward to next term and if Eden Hazard leaves the England international may have more of a chance to shine.
Nigel Reo-Coker would also surely be interested given that his Bolton side have been relegated. Kieran Richardson may be a tougher nut to crack as Sunderland have gone from strength to strength since Martin O’Neill took over from Steve Bruce at the Stadium of Light.
