Real Madrid are to offer Lassana Diarra to Spurs in part-exchange for Luka Modric.
Tottenham have had a long-standing interest in 27-year-old Diarra who is surplus to requirements at the Bernebeu.
But they will fight to keep Modric even though the player now wants out of White Hart Lane.

Tottenham do not want to be known as a ‘selling-club’, Harry Redknapp’s reign at the North London club have seen the club rise from the doldrums and into a top four spot and they have done so because they haven’t been forced to sell off their best talent.
Last summer Daniel Levy made sure that Luka Modric was not wooed away from White Hart Lane and if this summer the Croatian leaves for Real Madrid there is fair chance that other top Tottenham performers may look to do likewise, citing a lack of ambition as a reason for their departures.
Even the offer of Lassana Diarra into the bargain should not coax Redknapp into a sale, not least as there doesn’t seem all that much of a need to bring in another defensive midfield force when the club has Scott Parker and Sandro to take the job on.
The 26 year old Spurs schemer is tied down to a long term deal and as such Messrs Levy & Redknapp do not have to consider offers and any attempts to improve Tottenham’s squad could be financed by the trimming of a very expansive squad that has a number of under-performing members as opposed to having to cash in on players of actual worth who can help the club continue it’s upward progress.
