Bye bye Baines: Man United have opened talks with Everton over £12m move for England full-back

Leighton Baines: on his way to Old Trafford?
Manchester United have opened talks with Everton to sign England left back Leighton Baines in a massive deal.
United supremo David Gill has contacted Goodison chief Bill Kenwright to open the bidding and the Old Trafford club are prepared to pay £12 million for the classy defender.
Kenwright does not want to lose Baines and will ask for more – with £15 million the least the Toffees will accept – but the negotiations are now on.

Every time a transfer window is open there is a raft of stories linking Everton stars with Goodison Park exits. That is not all that surprising as the Merseyside club clearly have financial problems that will inevitably lead to their top talents leaving the club and once again Man United are strongly linked with full-back Leighton Baines.
The consistent England left back could well be the man to fill the right sided defensive slot in the Old Trafford back four as the likes of Rafael, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling have not managed to make that spot their own. The former Wigan man has spent five seasons as a virtual ever present at Everton and is now a regular in the England international set-up and on his way to the Euro 2012 finals.
The Kirkby born defender would surely be tempted by a move to Man United and a bid of £12-15m would appear to be a fairly decent one and a lot will depend on just how tight things are at Everton. David Moyes may be forced into selling one of his star turns in order to balance the books and a sale of this size could even leave a few million in the transfer pot.
