Arsenal line up £10m raid for Toulouse star Capoue as M’Vila talks stall
Arsenal could swoop for Toulouse midfielder Etienne Capoue if their £17million deal for Yann M’Vila falls through.
Arsene Wenger has been tracking M’Vila but has been forced to come up with a plan B due to confirmed interest from big-spending Manchester City.

23 year old French defensive midfielder Etienne Capoue has one thing very much in common with long term Arsenal target Yann M’Vila, namely both players have outgrown their Ligue 1 sides. Even though the Toulouse man is a couple of years older than Arsene Wenger’s number one target he is actually a tad behind the Rennes man in terms of career progression.
Whilst M’Vila is firmly ensconced in Laurent Blanc’s French national team set-up, and on his way to the Euro 2012 finals, Capoue is still to win a senior French national team cap. That said, the Niort born battler has collected a dozen Under 21 caps.
Wenger may well be looking for extra steel to add to his midfield to help protect his more creative talents, who have become adept at picking up knocks. The likes of Mikel Arteta, Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey have all spent significant time out on the sidelines so perhaps the French boss is looking to bring in strong ‘enforcers’ to help keep such knocks to a minimum.
Alex Song currently fills this role but the Cameroon international has become a more complete midfielder over the past year, notching up a large number of assists as he steadily proves he is more than just a defensive midfielder and more able to add to the offensive advances Arsenal engage in.
