Wenger trailing £28m Athletic Bilbao striker Llorente
Arsenal are monitoring developments with Athletic Bilbao’s Fernando Llorente.
The 27-year-old is open to a move to England and has only one year left on his contract but his buy-out clause means clubs will still have to fork out close to £28million.

Would such a signing be to play alongside or instead of Robin Van Persie? One would imagine that Lukas Podolski was brought in from Koln to act as a strike partner for the Dutch goal machine so this source may well be suggesting that a move for Athletic Bilbao forward Fernando Llorente would be on the cards should the Gunners skipper leave the Emirates Stadium.
Llorente has arguably outgrown his Athletic Bilbao, the Spanish international seeing his Basque side slump from a sixth place finish in 2010/11 to a tenth place spot in 2011/12. Though the San Mames side did reach the Europa League final it seems very possible that the big forward would be considering his options this summer.
The 6ft 5in striker has netted 101 goals in the past five seasons and has the stature to make a big impact in the Premier League where his physical presence could well lend itself well to life in the English top tier.
A £28m move would mean Arsenal smashing their transfer record purchase but is perhaps what is necessary given the North London club’s seven year silverware drought.
