Manchester City will recover from the disappointment of Eden Hazard’s snub by finally matching Inter Milan’s asking price for Wesley Sneijder, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.
Sneijder, a long standing target for rivals Manchester United, is available for around £30 million and the Champions want to lay down a marker after Lille’s Hazard opted to join Chelsea.
The Dutch midfielder, who has played for Ajax and Real Madrid, has consistently said he is happy at Inter but has refused to rule out a move to the Premier League in the future.
City’s neighbours United looked his likliest destination but their chase of Dortmund’s Shinji Kagawa could leave the door open for City to swoop in on Sneijder.
The 27-year-old is currently on International duty with Holland and any deal would have to wait until after the European Championships.
Roberto Mancini may well be looking to add more creativity and experience to his midfield and the Italian still has close ties with Inter Milan which could help him to win the race for Wesley Sneijder’s signature.
