Southampton have had a £7 million bid for Burnley striker Jay Rodriguez accepted by the Lancashire club, reports BBC Sport.
Nigel Adkins’ side have beaten off competition from Cardiff to land the 22-year-old, who scored 21 goals for the Clarets last season including four against Burton Albion in the Carling Cup first round.
The Burnley-born forward was named in the Championship team of the year by the Professional Footballers’ Association last month, alongside current Saints’ forward Rickie Lambert. The pair are now set to line up together when Southampton kick-off their Premier League campaign in August.
Last month, Adkins admitted he was already on the look out for players to improve his squad and Rodriguez is likely to be the first signing of a busy summer at St Mary’s.
Rodriguez has been at Burnley his whole career and has scored 41 goals in 128 appearances overall. He has made one appearance for the England U-21 side.
