Everton hope to conclude a deal to re-sign Steven Pienaar from Tottenham after nearing the North London club’s valuation of the winger.
Pienaar was signed by Spurs from Everton in January 2011 but started just ten games for the Lilywhites, prompting manager Harry Redknapp to allow him to return Goodison Park on loan in January.
The South African international was influential as Everton rallied to finish 7th in the League, scoring four times, including a late equaliser in an exhilarating 4-4 draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Pienaar has expressed a wish to stay at Everton, who have been negotiating a price with Spurs for the 30-year-old since the end of the season.
Tottenham beat off competition from Chelsea to sign the former Dortmund midfielder, who had six months left on his contract, for just £3 million but it is likely Everton will have to pay more than double that to secure his permanent return.
