Manchester United boss will attempt to seal a deal to sign long term target Jordi Alba by offering Valencia Brazilian midfielder Anderson in part exchange for the Spanish international full-back. Sir Alex Ferguson has scouted the highly regarded 23 year old on a number of occasions and hopes to beat fellow suitors Barcelona in the race to snap up the left back this summer.
The Mestalla outfit have found it increasingly difficult to keep hold of their top talent due to long term financial difficulties that have led to the sale of David Villa, David Silva and Juan Mata in recent seasons. Despite securing a spot in the Champions League for the coming season boss Mauricio Pellegrino may be left with no option other than to accept the best offer available for the former Barcelona youth team graduate.
Ferguson reportedly sees Alba as a long term successor to Patrice Evra as well as a strong enough talent to challenge the French international for his full-back position. The Valencia man can also play further up on the left flank and has been a consistent performer in La Liga over the past two campaigns leading to a spot in Vicente del Bosque’s national team set-up and a slot in the Spanish Euro 2012 squad.
Anderson has become surplus to requirements at Man United following injury concerns and a severe drop in form that saw the former FC Porto man making just eight Premier League starts last term. The 24 year old has experienced an up and down time of it since his £27m move to Old Trafford five years ago and has recently been considered as a makeweight in a reported move for another Ferguson target, Benfica playmaker Nicolas Gaitan.
Sir Alex Ferguson may well be willing to offer a nominal fee on top of the player exchange to help edge Barcelona in the race for the talented young Spaniard.
