Southampton want to sign Arsenal youngster Ryo Miyaichi on a season long loan after the Japanese winger’s successful stint at Bolton came to an end.
Miyaichi is yet to make a senior appearance for Arsenal but has impressed while on loan at Feyenoord and Bolton Wanderers in the last two seasons and made his full debut for Japan last month.
Trotters boss Owen Coyle is keen to retain the services of the tricky playmaker, dubbed the ‘Japanese Messi’, for another season.
But Arsenal want the youngster to continue his development in the Premier League, a view shared by Miyaichi, which has alerted newly promoted Saints.
Southampton boss Nigel Adkins has already stated his desire to bring in new faces ahead of Southampton’s first Premier League season since 2004/2005. The South Coast club hope to conclude a £7 million deal for Burnley striker Jay Rodriguez, while Adkins believes Miyaichi can add much needed creativity to the midfield.
Saints will not renew the loan of Spurs winger Yago Falque, who made just one appearance for the club after joining in January.
