Mod for it: United ready to offer Spurs £22m for Modric
Bid is an opening salvo and Fergie will go higher for the Croatia star PLUS Reds won’t pay Everton above £15m for Baines because of his age
Manchester United are ready to test Tottenham’s resolve to keep Luka Modric – with a £22million bid.
The Croatia midfielder has been on Sir Alex Ferguson’s wish-list for some time.

Man United have long been linked with a move for Tottenham midfielder Luka Modric but an offer of £22m would surely be laughed off by the North London side who probably have no intention of selling the Croatian international in the first place.
Sir Alex Ferguson has secure the signing of Shinji Kagawa and is seemingly to continue his summer spending and his admiration for Modric is well known but if he had any real intention of landing such a gifted midfielder than he would do well to significantly increase his offer.
The 26 year year old Tottenham, who is away on Euro 2012 duty, has just completed his fourth season at White Hart Lane and although the former Dinamo Zagreb man had spoken of his desire to move to Chelsea last summer his wishes were firmly denied by chairman Daniel Levy, who would surely adopt a similar stance this summer or else face the prospect of being labeled as ‘lacking ambition’.
The sale of such a crucial player, who may well feel unhappy at the absence of Champions League football for a second successive term, would also probably spark an exodus of other talents who may feel that Tottenham had become a ‘selling-club’, making it all the more likely that such an offer would be turned down flat.
