According to reports new Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is to re-ignite the club’s interest in Wigan Athletic midfielder Mohamed Diame.
Diame is out of contract this summer and is expected to leave the DW Stadium, with clubs across Europe keen on his services.
Diame revealed he was in talks with Liverpool before the sacking of Kenny Dalglish.
Sky Sports claims Rodgers has given the green light for the deal as he is a big fan of the midfielder.

Whatever reservations Liverpool fans may have over the signing of Senegal international, some could point to the fact that the defensive midfielder isn’t the most spectacular of additions, the fact that the experienced 24 year old wouldn’t cost a penny will surely play a factor in Brendan Rodgers’s thoughts.
It seems likely that the new Anfield boss will not be handed as big a transfer budget as Kenny Dalglish, not least because the £120m spend on new players only served to see the Merseyside club fall further off the top four pace but also because the resultant failure to secure Champions League football inevitably leads to lost revenue.
Diame has ran out his Wigan deal and no new offer has been accepted and presumably the former Rayo Vallecano man would jump at the chance of a move to Liverpool.
Rodgers may well feel he needs alternative options when it comes to adding steel to the Liverpool midfielder. Last term Dalglish had to use Jay Spearing as a replacement for Lucas Leiva when the Brazilian was ruled out for much of the season and the tigerish Englishman was found wanting, unable to put in consistent performances in the centre of the park.
