Manchester United are weighing up a £14million move for Dutch midfield enforcer Kevin Strootman.
Sir Alex Ferguson has been keeping tabs on the PSV Eindhoven star, with Darren Fletcher’s long-term United future still unclear.
That could leave the way clear for United to swoop for the 22-year-old, whose combative style has seen him likened to Roy Keane.

22 year old Kevin Strootman made such an instant impact since his move from Utrecht to PSV Eindhoven last summer that it appears there is a very real chance that the Dutch international may be on his way again this summer. Sir Alex Ferguson’s side could well do with a dedicated defensively minded midfielder, the type of which he doesn’t appear to have in his Old Trafford first team, but it may take a bid in excess of the £14m mentioned in order to seal the deal.
PSV have just re-signed Mark van Bommel, leading some to wonder if Strootman could struggle to get a regular spot in the Eredivisie side’s first team. Dick Advocaat is due to return to the club following Euro 2012, where he is taking charge of Russia, and the returning boss may therefore have alternative plans for the young midfielder.
Comparisons to Roy Keane are more than a little premature but Strootman has a bright future and has shown great potential for both club and country and would surely jump at the chance of a move to Man United.
Darren Fletcher has been out for quite some time with ongoing ulcerative colitis and as such his Man United, and footballing career in general, are very much in the balance. Given that Brazilian Anderson has been very average when called upon and there may be even more of a need to invest in another central midfield option and Kevin Strootman would suit the club well.
