Tottenham are on the verge of making a £16million bid for Marseille striker Loic Remy, according to reports.
The 25-year-old forward is known to be high on Harry Redknapp’s wanted list and reports claim that Marseille are ready to cash in after being hit by financial problems.
Redknapp had been priced out of a move for the France international but now a figure in the region of £16million could be enough to secure a move to White Hart Lane.
Tottenham could well do with new attacking options and Loic Remy, a long term target for the North London club, could well be the right man for the job.
Emmanuel Adebayor performed admirably leading the line last term but his temporary move from Man City seems no nearer to becoming a permanent one and reportedly that is down very much to the Togo international’s huge wage demands. Harry Redknapp is therefore understandably looking at alternatives.
Redknapp does not have a great many alternatives in his current Spurs squad having offloaded Robbie Keane, Peter Crouch and Roman Pavlyuchenko over the past 18 months. Jermain Defoe remains at the club but is probably not too happy at his lack of first team playing time.
Loic Remy has proven very effective since his move from Nice to Marseille two years ago. The 25 year old marksman has notched up 37 goals over the past two seasons but could perhaps be ready to leave the Stade Velodrome given that Didier Deschamps side appear to be moving backwards somewhat.
In his first season at the South of France side Marseille finished as Ligue 1 runners-up, clinching a Champions League spot but last term the club slipped down to tenth, some 34 points off top spot. That drop in form may well have led to Remy missing out on a spot in Laurent Blanc’s Euro 2012 squad and could well lead to his decision to consider Tottenham’s offer.
