Olly deal: Gunners agree £13m fee for France striker Giroud (report)
Montpellier ace would join Podolski at Emirates, and bit-player Marouane Chamakh could be the sweetener, as Gunners prepare for future without RvP
Arsenal are reported to have agreed a fee of £13million with Montpellier for France international striker Olivier Giroud.
There have been suggestions that Marouane Chamakh could move the other way as part of the deal.
SOURCE: Daily Mirror
Giroud is currently with the French squad at the Euro 2012 finals having enjoyed a prolific season during which he finished top scorer in Ligue 1, helping his side to a maiden domestic title. There has been a great deal of speculation surrounding the 25 year old’s future and not this source is stating that the deal to bring the striker to North London could see Moroccan international Marouane Chamakh going in the opposite direction.
Chamakh has proven a massive disappointment after initially impressing when he first arrived at the North London club on a free transfer from Bordeaux.
Should Giroud move to Arsenal then it may perhaps lead some to believe that Robin Van Persie may well leave the Emirates Stadium. The Dutch international is yet to sign a new contract and with Lukas Podolski already signed by Arsene Wenger perhaps he is looking to the Frenchman to replace his goal machine skipper?
Giroud is a relatively late developer, producing the goods at lower league sides Grenoble and Tours before proving a massive success at Montpellier.
