Benzema: United keep trying to sign me
Karim Benzema claims Manchester United have tried to sign him “for the past three or four seasons”.
Benzema, 24, transferred to Real Madrid from Lyon for £25 million in 2009 having been strongly linked with a move to Premier League side United.
Speculation has continued to suggest the Red Devils have a maintained interest in the France international, and Benzema has confirmed those rumours.
Sir Alex Ferguson is known to have tracked Karim Benzema since his Lyon days and as this source points out, the Man United boss is still very much keen on the French international. The Scot may well feel the need to beef up his attack following the sale of Michael Owen and inevitable departure of Dimitar Berbatov but it may prove a thankless task given that Real Madrid are now in the ascendancy in Spain.
The 24 year old took time to take to life in La Liga but is now a first team regular and last term notched up a very impressive 32 goals in all competitions, keeping Gonzalo Higuain on the bench in the process.
Wayne Rooney had a good season last term, which was just as well as Javier Hernandez experienced a very typical ‘difficult second season’ and Danny Welbeck is still to become a prolific finisher but if Ferguson is looking for reinforcements he may do well to look elsewhere this summer.
