Manchester City are set to miss out on Napoli front man Ezequiel Lavezzi after the Argentinian agreed to join Paris Saint-German.
City have been tracking 27-year-old Lavezzi, who can play up front or out wide, for some time but Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis confirmed over the weekend that a deal had been agreed in principle with the mega-rich French club, reports ESPN.
Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini is searching for attacking reinforcements, with Edin Dzeko likely to return to the Bundesliga and Carlos Tevez’s future still unclear.
Mancini’s agent, Giorgio De Giorgis, admitted City have held talks with the former Estudiantes forward but confirmed his extravagant wage demands scuppered any possible deal.
De Giorgis said: “I believe that City had, for more than a year and a half, spoken with Lavezzi but did not sign him because of problems over demands.”
Lavezzi joined Napoli for £7.5 million in 2007, and quickly became an important member of the Serie A side.
PSG are on the verge of completing the signing of defender Thiago Silva from AC Milan and are also set to confirm former Milan legend Paulo Maldini as their new defensive coach.
