Chelsea are keeping tabs on Brazilian defender Maicon but Inter Milan have yet to decide whether they will cash in on the player.
The Blues are said to be lining up Maicon just in case Branislav Ivanovic decides to move on but a whole host of clubs, including Barcelona and big spending Paris Saint Germain, are also keen.
The 30-year-old has just 12 months remaining on his current contract and Inter have to decide whether to cash in now or risk losing him for nothing next year if he opts against signing a new deal.
“We first have to decide if we want to sell Maicon,” Inter president Massimo Moratti told Gazzetta dello Sport. “Only then can we evaluate what to do.”
Chelsea have been linked with a succession of right-backs following the decision to release Jose Bosingwa and now it appears that Roman Abramovich and Roberto Di Matteo are looking to conduct a San Siro raid to land Brazilian international Maicon to fill the spot.
Though Branislav Ivanovic is also available to play on the right side of the defence the Serbian international is clearly more suited to playing as a centre back and with that in mind the West London club could well do with reinforcements.
30 year old Maicon is a hugely experienced campaigner who may well not be at his very best at present but the former Monaco man still has a great deal to offer and would give the Blues a great deal of balance in the back-line. The attack minded Inter Milan man may feel the time is right to leave the Italian giants as they have struggled of late and have failed to secure a spot in the Champions League for the coming season.
Maicon is a four time Serie A title winner as well and has racked up 235 appearances for Inter Milan over the past six seasons and has been a virtual ever present at the club.
