Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is ready to enter the race for Newcastle United striker Demba Ba and hopes to lure the Senegal international to Old Trafford this summer. The 27 year old forward has garnered a lot of interest following an impressive debut season with the Magpies and the Scot is looking to beat other prospective suitors as he looks to trigger the player’s release clause.
Demba Ba is thought to be available for as little as £7m under the terms of his initial Newcastle United contract, which the St James’ Park side are keen to re-negotiate but owner Mike Ashley may fail to convince the prolific marksman to pen a new deal if he feels that a move to Man United could enhance his career prospects.
Though Newcastle United had an excellent season last term, finishing just outside the top four, Ba may feel that he has gone as far as he can at the North-East club and could opt to make the move to Old Trafford so as to get his first taste of Champions League football as well as being able to challenge for major honours.
Ba netted 16 goals last term, a figure that may well have been even higher had he not reverted to a less advanced role when national team colleague Papiss Cisse arrived in January, and Ferguson feels the addition of firepower is crucial for the new season.
With Michael Owen being released and Dimitar Berbatov rumoured to be on set to leave and with Javier Hernandez failing to capture the form he displayed in his first season at the club, Sir Alex Ferguson is looking for alternative attacking options who could play up front alongside Wayne Rooney.
Ferguson is keen to have a complement of four top notch strikers as he looks to mount challenges on multiple fronts and sees Demba Ba as a very realistic target that he hopes to land in the coming weeks.
