Tottenham and Newcastle target Luuk De Jong is wanted by Portuguese giants Benfica but FC Twente have yet to receive any offers for the striker.
De Jong, 21, scored 25 goals in 33 appearances for FC Twente last term making the youngster one of the hottest properties in the Eredivisie. His form earned him a place in the Netherlands 23-man squad for Euro 2012 and a move away from minnows Twente after the tournament now looks likely.
Tottenham and Newcastle have both been linked with De Jong. The north Londoners need striking reinforcements after Louis Saha was released and Emmanuel Adebayor’s loan deal came to an end, while Newcastle may be eyeing De Jong as a potential replacement for sought-after forwards Demba Ba and Papiss Cisse.
De Jong’s agent, Louis Laros, told Portugese newspaper Record that despite the interest, no official bids have been made for the striker
He said, “At the moment we have not yet been offered anything. The guy wants to decide his future for himself. We are aware of the interest of Benfica, but we can not talk about it because there is no concrete proposal from them.”
