Pint sized Russian attacker Alan Dzagoev was reportedly an Arsenal target before the Euro 2012 finals began so their interest in the CSKA Moscow man will have been increased by the youngsters top notch performances in the two group matches against the Czech Republic and Poland.
The 21 year old attacking midfielder has netted three times in two matches and showed a great deal of industry in his advanced role just behind the front men. Indeed perhaps his performances put Wenger in mind of the manner in which Andrei Arshavin burst onto the scene during Euro 2008, which then led to a move to North London six months later.
Wenger may well feel he needs a further goal-scoring edge and his current crop of central and attacking midfielders don’t possess a great deal of scoring power. Mikel Arteta did fairly well in this regard last term but the likes of Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey and Tomas Rosicky struggle to net regularly and Dzagoev has shown a great deal of potential, potential the Gunners boss may be keen on tapping.
