Sir Alex Ferguson hopes to bring Nou Camp starlet to Old Trafford.
Italian source Diretta News claims that Man United are ready to make a move for highly rated Barcelona youngster Thiago Alcantara, who they believe will be made available for sale if their valuation of €25m (£21m) is met.
The 21 year old Italian born midfielder has represented Barcelona since the age of 14 but has struggled to retain a regular spot in the Catalan giant’s starting eleven and may feel that the departure of Pep Guardiola could signal the right time to consider other options.
Last term Alcantara did manage to play more of an active role in first team affairs, making 32 starts in all competitions, but saw his first team opportunities restricted as Xavi and Cesc Fabregas saw the lion’s share of the action in the central midfield role Thiago plies his trade in.
Man United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has been strongly linked with interest in Tottenham midfielder Luka Modric but the Scot may well feel that a move for the young Spanish international would prove more cost effective whilst also continuing his recent policy of bringing in youthful additions.
Having brought in the likes of Javier Hernandez, David de Gea, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones and seen the quartet flourish Ferguson may feel that a move for the Barcelona starlet may be a more sensible option to consider over a move for a Tottenham player approaching 27 years of age who could end up costing the Old Trafford side twice as much.
