Arsenal are lining up bids for a trio of French international as Arsene Wenger looks to invest significant funds into improving his Gunners squad this summer. The Emirates Stadium boss has been promised the full backing of his board as he looks to make up ground in the Premier League title race.
Wenger has already established contact with Montpellier over the first of his trio of targets, Olivier Giroud, who he hopes to land in with a £12.8m bid that would trigger the 25 year old’s release clause. The powerfully built forward finished last term as Ligue 1 top-scorer, helping his side to their first ever domestic title.
Giroud is seen as an addition to the club’s attacking options as opposed to acting as a replacement for Robin Van Persie, who Wenger is hoping to keep at the club with the help of ambitious moves for new signings who could help to end a seven year spell without silverware.
Though Lukas Podolski has arrived from Koln, Wenger still feels he needs to bring in further firepower and will look to make way for these new additions by offloading Marouane Chamakh, Nicklas Bendtner and Carlos Vela this summer.
Wenger will then step up his long term pursuit of Rennes midfielder Yann M’Vila. The young defensive midfielder was said to be close to a move to the North London club but talks froze over the respective valuations placed on the 21 year old but having been guaranteed a injection of transfer funds the Arsenal manager is ready to make an offer of us to £16m for the tough tackling youngster.
Arsene Wenger is looking to add extra steel to his midfield having seen his main ‘enforcer’ Alex Song evolve into a more complete performer who last term turned out to Arsenal’s top assist provider. A move for a dedicated defensive midfielder is especially crucial given the injuries suffered by the club’s more creative talents who could well do with the added protection M’Vila can offer.
The third French international Wenger will pursue is highly rated right back Mathieu Debuchy. The 26 year old is said to be a Newcastle United and Chelsea target but the Arsenal manager will look to bring in the adaptable Lille man, who can also play in a midfield role, to add strength in depth to his squad.
Last term Wenger experienced a crippling injury crisis that appeared to effect the most damage on his full-back options, leaving the likes of Johan Djourou having to deputize. The fact that right choice right-back Bacary Sagna suffered two broken legs last season will act as an impetus to make an offer for Debuchy, who the Gunners supremo will look to make his second Lille capture, having snapped up Gervinho from the Stade Metropole side last summer.
Wenger will look to win the race for the experienced defender with a bid in the region of £9m.
