Salomon Kalou ‘set to snub Arsenal and Liverpool for Lille transfer’
Salomon Kalou looks set to disappoint Arsenal, Liverpool and Newcastle by signing for Lille following his release by Chelsea.
The Ivorian became a free agent when the Blues decided not to renew his contract at the end of last season, despite him starting in both the FA Cup and Champions League finals.
It now appears he has decided against staying in the Premier League and is looking at options abroad.
According to French television station beIN Sport, Kalou is close to agreeing terms for a contract with Lille.
There had been growing speculation that Salomon Kalou would look to remain in the Premier League but a move to Lille may well be a wiser alternative. The Ivory Coast international spent almost his entire six year spell at Chelsea looking to convince various managers of his worth and was never a first team regular and a move to the Ligue 1 side may prove the most likely to offer the 26 year old regular first team football.
Given that Rudi Garcia’s side have seen Eden Hazard leave and are unlikely to nab Joe Cole on a permanent deal the inclusion of Kalou would add some much needed bite to their attack.
Kalou made a total of 254 appearances for Chelsea, albeit a massive 107 of those games came from the bench, netting 60 goals for the West London side in the process.
