Alan Pardew wants to bring French international to St James’ Park.
Newcastle have been rebuffed in their £4million bid to tempt Mathieu Debuchy from Lille after boss Rudi Garcia laughed off their offer.
The France right-back has impressed during Euro 2012 against England and Ukraine and was expected to join the Magpies after the tournament.
But Garcia has dismissed Newcastle’s bid, claiming they must have made an offer for the wrong player as the figure was so low – the club are believed to want at least £6m.

It’s no surprise that such a low bid was flatly rejected. In today’s transfer market barely gets you a Championship player, indeed Man United will expect to pay £4m for Crewe Alexandra youngster Nick Powell so clearly the same fee will land you an international full-back, and one who is clearly at the top of his game.
Mathieu Debuchy has impressed at the Euro 2012 finals and is now Laurent Blanc’s first choice right back. The 26 year old has been at Lille since the age of eight but appears likely to leave having seen a number of his team-mates leave the Stade Metropole.
Eden Hazard, Gervinho, Moussa Sow and Yohan Cabaye have left over the past year and Debuchy is set to follow suit, though not at that price.
Alan Pardew is looking to replace Danny Simpson who is said to be set to leave the St James’ Park club this summer.
