Old Trafford boss plans La Liga shopping trip.
According to reports Manchester United are interested in Real Madrid ace Gago.
Sport Italia claims United have made enquiries about the Argentina international.
The 26-year-old is available from Real after spending last season on-loan at AS Roma.
However, a change of manager at Roma has seen the Giallorossi go cold on the idea of signing Gago permanently.

Fernando Gago’s career was stagnating on the Real Madrid periphery before a loan move to Roma helped the defensive midfielder to recapture his form. The Argentine international was pretty much a bit part player at the Bernabeu prior to Jose Mourinho’s arrival and once the ‘Special One’ arrived it was abundantly clear things were not going to get any better, not least with the arrival of Sami Khedira putting another obstacle in his way.
Sir Alex Ferguson has lacked a dedicated ‘enforcer’ ever since Owen Hargreaves was struck by his injury problems, since that point the Scot has made do with a number of players who can offer bite in the tackle but who are not specifically defensive midfielders.
The likes of Anderson and Darren Fletcher offer a bit of both worlds in regards to defensive and attacking traits. Paul Scholes has helped in this regard but clearly at 37 the Man United veteran is not a long, or even medium, term solution.
Gago wouldn’t cost the earth and perhaps the good relationship between Mourinho and Ferguson will make such a deal a fairly straightforward one.
