Magpies look to win race for Lille defender.
NEWCASTLE have emerged as favourites to land Mathieu Debuchy – because of his friendship with France team-mate Yohan Cabaye.
Toon boss Alan Pardew is in a battle with Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Inter Milan and Valencia for Lille right-back Debuchy.
But the defender, has told pals he will only quit the French outfit for Tyneside after getting rave reviews of the Magpies from Cabaye at Euro 2012.
And that has put Pardew in pole position to snap up Debuchy – if he agrees to meet Lille’s £7million asking price.

Alan Pardew may well have the upper hand in the chase for Mathieu Debuchy and the French international, who has been on the Magpies radar for some months, may appreciate the fact that Newcastle United have been tracking the full-back long before his performances at Euro 2012.
Pardew could well do with a new right-back option with Danny Simpson seemingly set to leave St James’ Park and the good form shown by the St James’ Park side will not have gone unnoticed by the Lille defender who performed admirably during the finals in Ukraine and Poland.
The fact that Debuchy will find it easier to secure a regular run in the first team at the North-East giants may also be a factor as the 26 year old looks to leave the club he has represented since the age of eight.
However Alan Pardew will have to make sure that Mike Ashley digs deep to land the French international as the club’s earlier bid of £4m will just not cut it.
