Done deal say French club.
Montpellier President Louis Nicollin has confirmed that star striker Oliver Giroud is set to join Arsenal.
Speaking to midillbre.fr, Nicollin said, “I wish him well, as he is a good guy.”
Nicollin also revealed that Arsenal had paid the full €15 million release clause for the French international and confirmed that Maroune Chamakh was not part of the deal.
Giroud, 25, has been with the Ligue 1 Champions since 2010, scoring 33 league goals in 71 appearances. The towering striker – who stands at nearly 6’4″ – broke into the France national team last year and was part of the squad that crashed out of Euro 2012 to holders Spain.
The former Grenoble striker was widely expected to join Arsenal and is set to link up with fellow new boy Lukas Podolski next season at the Emirates.
Giroud netted 25 goals in all competitions last term as he helped his side to a maiden Ligue 1 title.
One would imagine that Arsene Wenger would look to offload a number of his current strike-force to make way for these new additions. As well as the aforementioned Chamakh the likes of Nicklas Bendtner, Carlos Vela and Park Chu-Young may well be offloaded by the Gunners boss this summer.
