Toon eye another full-back.
Newcastle United have turned their attention to Poland defender Sebastian Boenisch in their hunt for a new full-back, according to reports in German newspaper Bild.
Boenisch is a free agent after leaving Werden Bremen at the end of last season but impressed at Euro 2012, playing all three games at left-back as hosts Poland exited in the group stage.
The 25-year-old had looked set to join Bundesliga club Stuttgart but the move has reportedly fallen through leaving Newcastle boss Alan Pardew ready to pounce.
The St James’ Park club have made no secret of their desire for defensive reinforcements this summer, especially as Danny Simpson’s future is in doubt after the the former Manchester United star refused to sign a new contract.
Pardew has been chasing France full-back Mathieu Debuchy but he is wanted by Chelsea so may turn to Boenisch as a cheaper and more realistic alternative.
The former Schalke full-back can play on the right or left side of defence and stands at over 6’3″. Boenisch, who was born in Poland, represented Germany at Under-21 level but chose to switch to the country of his birth so he could feature at Euro 2012.
He is married to Miss Austria Tatjana Batini?.
