Saints to rival Norwich and Blackburn for forward’s signature.
Newly promoted Southampton are preparing to go head-to-head with Norwich and Blackburn in the race to sign Newcastle striker Leon Best, reports Clubcall.
The 25-year-old has fallen behind Senegalese duo Demba Ba and Papiss Cisse in the pecking order at St James’ Park and is likely to be further displaced by the imminent arrival of Luuk de Jong on Tyneside.
Saints boss Nigel Adkins is keen to tempt Best back to Southampton – the club where he began his professional career in 2004.
The St Mary’s club will face competition from Norwich, whose new boss Chris Hughton signed the Irishman for Newcastle from Coventry in 2010, and Championship new boys Blackburn.
Adkins is also reportedly keen to rival Sevilla for Czech Republic international Tomas Sivok, who is currently with Turkish club Besiktas.
