Emirates Stadium outfit to get rid of French centre back.
French source MaxiFoot claim that Arsenal centre back Sebastien Squillaci is set to complete a move to Corsica based side Bastia. The 31 year old defender is said to be ready to sign a one year deal with the newly promoted Ligue 1 side.
Squillaci has proved a fairly disastrous signing for the North London club since he made his move to Arsenal from Sevilla two years ago. The experienced campaigner was seen as a player who would ideally add strength in depth to the Gunners back-line but that hasn’t proven the case.
The French international has looked out of his depth and off the pace and last term was only used when an injury crisis deemed it impossible to overlook him.
The one time Monaco man managed just nine minutes of Premier League football last term but in time Arsenal threw away a lead away at Fulham and lost thanks to conceding two goals in the final five minutes.
In his first season at Arsenal Squillaci somehow notched up 20 Premier League starts during which Arsenal managed to collect just five clean sheets.
Perhaps his most notable game came against Newcastle United, entering the play as a 49th minute sub when Arsenal were four-nil up. Of course the Magpies collected a 4-4 draw that day.
