Alan Pardew is keen to improve his St James’ Park squad this summer whilst simultaneously looking to avoid losing any of his top performers after an excellent season for the Magpies last term where Newcastle United just missed out on a Champions League berth.
Bringing in an extra centre back would be a good way to offer strength in depth to the North-East side who perhaps do not have a great many options beyond the likes of skipper Fabricio Coloccini, Mike Williamson and Steven Taylor.
24 year old ‘Douglas’ Teixeira arrived at FC Twente five years ago and has racked up over 150 appearances in all competitions and helped the Eredivisie side to a domestic title in 2009/10 under Steve McClaren’s previous term in charge of the Dutch side.
Moves to capture FC Twente striker Luuk De Jong appeared to have suffered a setback with Borussia Monchengaldbach said to be now leading the chase for the Dutch international.
