Emirates Stadium boss lines up Robin Van Persie replacement.
Arsene Wenger is ready to launch abid for Schalke striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar having lost the battle to keep Gunners captain Robin Van Persie at the Emirates Stadium. The Gunners boss is looking to further strengthen his attack following the signings of Olivier Giroud and Lukas Podolski this summer.
The 28 year old Dutch international is reported to have a £17m release clause that Arsenal are ready to trigger in the hope that the former Ajax, Real Madrid and AC Milan man will wish to leave the Bundesliga for North London. Huntelaar has seen his move to Germany re-ignite a career that had stuttered at both the Bernabeu and the San Siro with the Schalke forward scoring a remarkable 48 goals from 47 appearances last season.
Huntelaar may well jump at the chance of a move to the Premier League, where the instinctive forward has stated he would like to ply his trade and a move away from his Gelsenkirchen side has been made all the more likely following the departure of his strike partner Raul. The Spanish veteran, who also proved a big hit at the club, has made the summer move to Qatari side Al Sadd.
Wenger will look to trim his back-up attacking options in light of a possible third attacking capture with the likes of Carlos Vela, Nicklas Bendtner and Marouane Chamakh all strongly linked with exits that won’t garner a great deal of capital in terms of funds from sales but will helpfully rid the club’s balance sheet of their fairly hefty pay packets.
