Icelandic star to be AVB’s first signing.Gylfi Sigurdsson will fly to London this week to finalise his £8 million move to Tottenham Hotspur.
The Icelandic midfielder returned to training with parent club Hoffenheim over the weekend but has already agreed terms with the north Londoners.
Sigurdsson is set to be new boss Andre Villas-Boas’ first signing at White Hart Lane. The Portuguese was named as Spurs new head coach yesterday but it is understood that he instructed the club to pursue Sigurdsson as long as ten days ago.
Liverpool had looked in pole position to land the 22-year-old and the Anfield club reportedly made a last ditch attempt to trump Spurs’ offer.
But the Icelandic star is said to be excited by Spurs free-flowing football and, reportedly, was offered a significant pay-packet to join the Lilywhites.
Former Reading playmaker Sigurdsson dazzled the Premier League when on loan at Swansea last season, scoring 7 league goals in just 18 appearance for Brendan Rogers’ men.
Rogers, now Liverpool boss, was desperate to make the goal-scorer his first signing on Merseyside but is now resigned to missing out to Spurs and will turn his attention to other targets.
