Champions to offer forward a new contract.
Ligue 1 Champions Montpellier are set to hand star man Younes Belhanda an improved contract in a bid to ward off interest from Arsenal and Liverpool.
The 22-year-old is one of the hottest properties in France after banging in 12 goals in 28 matches for Montpellier last season.
Both Liverpool and Arsenal are interested in bringing the silkily skilled Moroccan to the Premier League, reports the Metro.
Belhanda, who can play out wide or through the middle and possesses sumptuous technique, reportedly earns only £15,000 a week and the French club are willing to triple his wages to nearer the £45,000 mark.
Montpellier president Louis Nicollin has faced criticism from supporters after the club surrendered star striker Olivier Giroud to Arsenal for just £12 million deal and he has assured fans the club will do more to hold onto their stars in future.
Belhanda has also been linked to Premier League champions Manchester City but Arsenal – who are seeking a replacement for outbound Andrei Arshavin – are in pole position for the winger, while Liverpool’s Brendan Rogers is desperate to add attacking creativity to his new side.
The youngster is thought to be relishing the prospect of playing for Montpellier in next season’s Champions League and is likely to sign a new contract at the club if he feels their offer is acceptable.
