Emirates Stadium captain confirms intention to leave.
Robin van Persie has announced he will not be extending his contract at Arsenal, with a statement on his official website reading: “I’ve thought long and hard about it, but I have decided not to extend my contract. You guys, the fans, have of course the right to disagree with my view and decision and I will always respect your opinions.”

So that’s that then, right? Now that Arsenal captain Robin Van Persie has made it clear he will not sign a new Gunners deal it seems very likely he will be leaving this summer, as opposed to being free to leave for nothing in a year’s time, something the North London club will surely not consider a financially viable option.
Arsene Wenger has brought in Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud at a cost of around £23m and clearly this was done in the full knowledge that the 28 year old Arsenal goal machine had no intention to sticking around.
Now Arsenal must size up incoming offers, which will surely be plentiful given the club form Van Persie has displayed over the past two years. Will Wenger consider offers from Premier League sides, clearly this has not been a problem in the past, and indeed will the Dutchman be more interested in a move abroad?
