Dutchman favours Serie A.

Unsettled Arsenal striker Robin Van Persie has his heart set on a move to Juventus, rather than Premier League giants Manchester United or Manchester City.

The Manchester pair are interested the Dutchman, who announced his intention not to renew his contract at the Emirates yesterday.

But the 28-year-old, who scored 30 times for the Gunners in the league last season, would prefer a move to the Serie A Champions.

Juventus made a token bid of £8 million for the Netherlands international early this week – which was promptly rejected by Arsenal – but the Old Lady are ready to return with an improved offer in the next fortnight.

Juve boss Antonio Conte guided the club to an unbeaten Serie A title last season and is desperate to bring in Van Persie who he believes can help the Turin club mount a serious Champions League challenge next season.

Van Persie, who has only played in the Eredivisie and England, wants a crack at the Serie A is understood to be excited by the prospect of playing alongside the likes of Andrea Pirlo and the returning Sebastian Giovinco.

Arsenal issued a statement yesterday stating they were confident that Van Persie would see out the final year of his contract but it looks increasingly likely that the north Londoners will be forced to cash in on their captain.

The Gunners would naturally prefer Van Persie to join Juventus rather than follow in the footsteps of Samir Nasri and Gael Clichy by joining Manchester City but it seems unlikely that the Italians will be able to outbid Roberto Mancini’s side.
